A special program of the Confucius Institute Day and the fifth anniversary of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University, the Shanghai Education Exhibition and Forum was held in Istanbul on September 26, 2014. 25 universities and 4 high schools from Shanghai joined the exhibition, including Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, East China University of Science and Techonology, Shanghai University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai University of Engineering and Technology, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai Conversatory of Music, Shanghai Sport University. It is the first show of the universities from Shanghai in Istanbul. Teachers and students from Boğaziçi University, Istanbul University, and other universities and schools in Istanbul attended the event.
The opening ceremony started with the lion dance of students from Confucius Institute. Vice Rector of Boğaziçi University, Prof. Mehmed Özkan, welcomed the honorable guests. The Consul General of PRC in Istanbul, Mr. Gu Jingqi, saluted to the success of this event, and sent congratulations to the fifth anniversay of Confucius Institute at Boğaziçi University. The winner of the second prize of the 13th Chinese Bridge Competition in Turkey, Miss Surreya Tak and her father, performanced Tai-chi and tea art on the same platform. The tea served with a song won a lot applauds from the guests.
On the afternoon, Consul General Gu Jingqi had a meeting with the Chinese teachers in Istanbul. And a seminar between the Chinese teachers in Istanbul and the vistors from Shanghai was followed, focusing on the topic of “Learning Chinese to Study in China.” Prof. Eyüp Saritas from Istanbul University and others contributed their view from a Turkish perspective.
One impressing thing is that, the students of Confucius Institute had an active participation in this event, including the moderator, lion dance, performance, and reception. Their fluent Chinese and love to China is the best gift to this celebration.
