She has been Chair of History Department, Director of Asian Studies Center, Turkish Director of Confucius Institute, and University Administrative Council Member; she is President of Japanese Studies Association in Turkey since 2002. Her latest publications include: Turk-Cin Iliskilerine Turkiye’den Bakislar (Turkish-Chinese Relations: Perspectives from Turkey, 2012), Japan, Turkey, and the World of Islam: The Writings of Selcuk Esenbel (2011), and Japan and the World of Islam: Transnational Nationalism and World Power, 1868-1945 (forthcoming, 2014). She got the High Achivement Award for Senior Scholars from Boğaziçi University in 2005, and the Special Prize for Japanese Studies from Japan Foundation in 2007.

She studied Chinese at Shenzhen University. Her research and teaching focus on Modern Chinese History, transnational history, and religion and ethnicity with a specific focus on the Hui. Her recent article is titled: “A Place under the Sun: Chinese Muslim (Hui) Identity and the Constitutional Movement in Republican China.” She is now working on her first book project titled “Islam in Translation: Chinese Muslims and Transnational Intellectual Networks in Modern China, 1908-1957.”.

She joined Department of History at Boğaziçi University as a Chinese language teacher in 2004, and attended the training session at Beijing University of Language and Culture in 2006, with the certificate for teaching Chinese to foreigners from Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban. During 2006-2008, she helped the process of Boğaziçi University’s application for Confucius Institute, and facilitated the cooperation with Shanghai University.

He got extensive Chinese courses at Peking University for 1 year through Confucius Institute Scholarships. He passed HSK5 and HSKK Intermediate in February 2019. He also attended Shanghai University Summer School in 2017 and volunteered in a project in Zhengzhou. He was honored by Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Istanbul in March 2017. He founded Chinese Language and Culture Society (BU中) in 2017 and served as president for a long time. He has been organizing different activities and taking crucial responsibilities in organizations to promote China, Chinese culture and language.

In her first time in China, she stayed in Chongqing for 10 days and participated into a volunteer project related to children care. She received Confucius Institute Scholarship at 2017 and studied Chinese Language and Literature in Qingdao University, China for a semester in 2018. She passed HSK 5 and HSKK during her time in Qingdao. In 2019, she took the 3rd place at the 18th Chinese Bridge Competition in Turkey and participated to the Chinese Bridge Competition finals in China as an observer participant in same year, August. Also, she received the 3rd Chinese Consulate scholarship in 2019. She executed engineering internships in Wuxi and Changzhou, China and got the chance to use her engineering and Chinese skills combined. She has participated and organised many events about Chinese Language and Culture.
