A joint program of Confucius Institute & the Asian Studies Center at Bogazici University and Center for Global Studies & Center for Turkish Studies at Shanghai University, the 2nd China-Turkey Forum with the topic of “China and Turkey in the Global 21st Century” was successfully held in Shanghai, from November 7 to 9, 2013. Prof. Selcuk Esenbel, Prof. Arzu Ozturkmen, and Prof. Meltem Toksoz participated in the conference on behalf of Confucius Institute and the Asian Studies Center. The Turkish Consul General in Shanghai, Ms. Deniz Eke, presented and had a keynote speech.
At the opening ceremony, Prof. Yu Xinhui, President of Shanghai University had a welcome remark. Forty scholars from 16 institutions attended the conference and presented their papers. There are seven panels focusing on four subjects: China-Turkey relations, Turkish politics, economy and foreign policy, Turkish literature, and Turkey in the era of globalization. With the background of “Turkish Year in China”, this conference explored two countries’ connection and communication on politics, economy, foreign policy, literature, and culture, as well as challenges and opportunities faced by both sides in the globalized era.
Prof. Selcuk Esenbel and Prof. Changgang Guo concluded the conference on behalf of Bogazici University and Shanghai University. Both sides expressed their hope for further cooperation and the publishing of the conference papers. Honorary guests also include Mr. Noyan Rona, Chief Representative of Garanti Bank of Turkey in Shanghai.
